CHIPs & FRACTURES - PILL FORMS - ANALOGOUS PALLETTES - new reclaimed materials
THE STORY BEHIND THE PILULA COLLECTION
My new collection PILULA takes inspiration from chipped and fractured glass. Abstract straight and curved lines break up pill forms in surprising ways to create a feeling of imbalance. The word PILULA originates from the Latin word for Small Pill, I have wanted to incorporate this shape for some time and am excited to showcase this simple form, full of timeless beauty that never fails to please to the eye. This body of work incorporates some new materials and techniques including raw elk hide that has been stitched into position. Roman clay textured panels and multi surface zero waste walnut panels. Another goal with the PILULA collection was to create work that had an analogous palette, instead of previous artwork characterized by bright colour and high contrast.
Although each piece in the PILULA collection has their own personality, there are many elements that still connect them. Each piece is inspired by fractured lines within the confines of pill structures and consists of 6 different materials (2 types of wood, 1 hide, 1 metallic, 1 roman clay, 1 felt).
