THE STORY BEHIND THE TRAPEZ COLLECTION 

My new collection TRAPEZ are a series of abstract diptych pieces that experiment with straight and curved lines within the confines of trapezoid structures. Originating from the Greek word for table Trapeza, the pieces that make up this collection have been designed with diversity and versatility in mind. In the same way that a table has many uses for different occasions, these modular pieces can be arranged in dozens of different ways to accommodate any wall.  This body of work incorporates some new reclaimed materials including deer hide, acoustic felt and cork. My main goal with the TRAPEZ collection to create work that was successful when combined in multiple ways on multiple walls, while also discovering unexpected beautiful through combining unusual colours, materials and textures. 

Although each piece in the TRAPEZ collection has their own personality, there are many elements that still connect the them. Each diptych consists of two 48” x 24" trapeziums divided by straight and curved lines to achieve abstract 12 panel portals made up of 6 different materials. These materials include; reclaimed cedar, acoustic dampening felt (defective stock from local business Inbox booths), deer hide and a selection of leathers, various acrylic pieces and a range of hard woods (white oak, walnut and cherry) to add warmth and richness to each piece.
